ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has given two weeks time to federal government and Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman for removing commercial activities from residential areas in the federal capital, shifting foreign embassies to Diplomatic Enclave and enacting legislation with regard to private schools.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked, “Legislating is domain of the government. However, laws are made against public interest in the name of public interest. He gave these remarks while presiding over a two members bench of Supreme Court during the course of the hearing of the case on Monday.

Additional Attorney General (AAG) Amirur Rehman and counsel for CDA Shahid Hamid appeared in the court.

While presenting report in the court, counsel for CDA told that the obstructions outside two embassies have been removed. Offices of IG Islamabad and IG Motorway Police have been shifted from residential areas. The process of legislation is underway for shifting private schools because the study of the children will be affected if 359 schools would be shifted.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked, “We know that making laws is job of the government and laws are being made but laws are being enacted against public interest in the name of public interest.

The petitioner Ali Raza told the court that over 100 guesthouses are operating in the residential areas and the administration is delaying the matter deliberately. They themselves are responsible in the matter of private schools. They knew it from the very beginning that permission cannot be given for private schools and even then it was given. The court while summoning progress report from CDA adjourned the hearing of the case.
