Wounded victims of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, feared that death toll may rise

LAHORE – Another wounded victims of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park blast succumbed to injuries in Jinnah hospital of the city late Monday night, raising the death toll to 75 on Tuesday.

At least 100 more injured persons including of blast still admitted in different hospitals of the city, however, some injured are critical condition and the death toll could be increased.

The 15-year old victim, Chand Masih, a resident of Nishter Colony had sustained critical injuries in the blast; he was rushed to Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. According to hospital sources that more people were serious and it was feared that death toll may rise further. Earlier, a bomb exploded in Gulshan-e- Iqbal Park on Sunday evening March 27, leaving at least 69 persons including children and women died while more than 300 citizens injured who were admitted in different city hospitals.

Following the suicide blast in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, the Lahore police have beefed up its security arrangements across the provincial metropolis. Police sources said that the personnel deputed at city’s police stations are also directed to keep a vigilant eye on all crowded places situated in their respective jurisdiction.

City police also conducted several search operations against suspects involved in heinous crime across the city so far. During these search operations hundreds of persons were questioned and several were kept in police custody for further probe because all arrested persons could not identified their position through legal documents and police sent them in different police stations for further legal procedure on daily basis.

The focused areas of these search operations were included residential areas, Markets, Hotels, Rest Houses, Educational Institutes, Media Houses, and other important offices.
