PESHAWAR – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Election Commissioner Noman Wazir said on Tuesday that preparations for intra-party polls were in full swing across Khyber Pakhthunkwa with April 15 as the last date for member’s registration.
While briefing coordinators on the procedure of the election during his visit to the party’s provincial secretariat in Peshawar, he said that six candidates were in the running for the post of provincial president including Shaukat Yousfzai, Ali Amin Gandapur, Khalid Masood Khan, Fazal Khan, Gul Sahib Khan and Hamida Shahid.
He said that 2.6 million members had registered themselves with PTI so far, adding that only those who registered by April 15 would be able to vote in the elections. He said that those members, who joined after the said date, would be able to vote in the next elections.
Wazir said that elections for the seat of the chairperson would be held on the central level while presidents would be elected for the rest of the constituencies. Presidents would then have the authority to appoint people to the remaining portfolios such as senior vice president as well as general, finance and information secretaries.
The party election commissioner said that elections would take place for around 800 seats throughout the country and results would be made public within an hour of the elections.
PTI Khyber Pakhthunkhwa Election Commission media coordinator Sahibzada Hassain Khan said that the final date for polls had not been decided yet. He said that after completion of the membership process, voter lists would be issued and the candidates would be finalized.
