JIT formed to probe allegations on MQM leadership

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has constituted a joint interrogation team (JIT) to probe the allegations leveled on MQM leadership including funding from Indian intelligence agency RAW, money laundering and weapons purchase. The JIT headed by FIA Director Mazhar Kakakhel will review the statement recorded by Sarfarz Merchant and evidences he provided to the JIT. The team would submit its report along with recommendations in a month. A five-member team is headed by FIA Director Mazhar Kakakhel comprising two members from Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), one each from civilian intelligence agency. Intelligence Bureau IB and Sindh Rangers. The JIT has been empowered to seek support from any person or official besides central or provincial departments regarding the investigations.
