LAHORE: Another wounded victim of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park blast succumbed to injuries in Jinnah Hospital, raising the death toll to 75 on Tuesday.
At least 100 injured people are still admitted in different hospitals of the city, however some injured people are in critical condition and an increase in the death toll is expected.
A 15-year old victim, Chand Masih, resident of Nishter Colony, had sustained critical injuries in the blast. He was rushed to Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after treatment of almost a month. According to hospital sources, more people were serious and it is feared that death toll may rise further. Earlier, a bomb exploded in Gulshan-e- Iqbal Park on March 27 left at least 69 people, including children and women, dead while more than 300 citizens got injured and were admitted in different city hospitals.
Following the suicide blast, the city police beefed up its security arrangements across the provincial metropolis. Police sources said that the personnel deputed at the police stations are also directed to keep a vigilant eye on all crowded places situated in their respective jurisdiction. The police also conducted several search operations against the suspects involved in heinous crimes across the city. During these search operations, hundreds of people were questioned and several were kept in police custody for further probe, as all arrested persons could not provide sufficient proof of their identifies.
