Suspect dies in lockup

KARACHI: One suspect died on Monday in PS Rizvia lock up due to severe negligence of police and the Hospital staff. The deceased was claimed to be arrested three days earlier in injured condition during an alleged encounter.

According to the initial information one person was brought in to Civil Hospital on Monday by the police team of PS Rizvia who was later identified as Nasir alias Irani a resident of PakColony.

SHO Idrees Bangash told Daily Times that suspect was arrested on 27th May from Kashmir Colony during an encounter in which suspect Nasir got bullet injury on his leg, police shifted him to the Civil Hospital for medical treatment but the staff of Hospital refused to admit the injured , on refusal police took the suspect back to the police station where he was kept in lockup.

“The investigation police produced Nasir in the court and took further remand for interrogation but suspect could not survive and died today” he added.

Deceased Nasir was under allegations of being a member of Lyari gang war and drug seller and was wanted by Pak Colony police in various cases.

High officials of the police have taken the notice of the incident and have sought complete enquiry report from DIG West police while the police has handed over the dead body to family.
