CM expresses displeasure over KWSB’s failure to initiate 2 projects

KARACHI: Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) while expressing his annoyance over failure of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) for not initiating two mega development projects during outgoing fiscal 2016-17 has asked Jam Khan Shoro, Minister Local Government (LG) Sindh to take action in this regard.

Chairing a progress review meeting on development projects, Murad Ali Shah said that despite releasing funds of Rs 700 million for 65-million gallon of water per day scheme and the building of a new 100 MGD pumping station at Dhabeji, why has KWSB miserably failed to initiate a single step forward in two development schemes.

CM has also expressed his anger over the absence of Misbahuddin Fareed, KWSB Project Director (PD) in the meeting. Secretaries Planning and Development, LG, Public Health Engineering, special secretary on LG, managing director (MD) KWSB, project directors of S-II and K-4 and concerned departments officials were also present during the meeting.

The matters of allocated and released funds were reviewed in the meeting and their utilisation and the progress on different ongoing development projects.

MD KWSB while showing his inability on the progress of projects informed the participants that KWSB PD remained is the right official and could inform about the pros and cons of these projects.

Meanwhile, Jam Shoro assured the meeting that he would gather details from PD KWSB about the reasons of failure in initiating these two projects.

Misbahuddin Fareed PD KWSB while talking to Daily Times informed that tendering process for 65 MGD project was underway besides talks for procurement of water steel conduits from foreign companies were on track.

He also revealed that 100 MGD Dhabeji contract has been awarded to a company and matters of assignment were under process.

KWSB is about to start scrutinising the credentials of the tendering companies for generation of 40 megawatts electricity under dual-fuel power project in name of Dhabeji Power Project on Built, Operate and Own (BOO) basis, he concluded.
