Curbing terrorism

Sir: After the third assault on one of the Pakistan Air Force bases, the latest being on the airbase Kamra by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), do we still need evidence to establish that Pakistan is at war with the TTP?

I do not understand why the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chairperson and the PML-N leaders still have a soft corner for the TTP when it does not believe in democracy and elections. These parties know very well that the security establishment has been making our foreign and domestic policy since General Ziaul Haq’s era.

When General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani has told the nation that the war against the TTP is our war and not America’s, is there any other person in a better position than him or with more knowledge about the country’s security under threat? Any Pakistani with minimal common sense knows that those militants who were patronised by the establishment to fight Pakistan’s foreign enemies have turned their guns on the Pakistani defence forces and people. Why do religious political parties and Difa-e-Pakistan Council continue accusing the US of masterminding the attacks on air force and army installations when the TTP spokesperson owned and praised the terrorist attacks?

The army has already shown restraint for too long, it is however not a wise decision to wait any further.
