PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Senior Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai has said that the government has taken result-oriented measures for strengthening the health sector in the province.
He said the government has taken several measures for the well being of health employees including doctors, paramedics and nurses besides strengthening the healthcare system and now its time that doctors and other health practitioners should step forward to supplement the government efforts in restoring the public trust on our healthcare delivery system.
He was addressing as pro-chancellor on the third convocation of Khyber Girls Medical College the other day. He stressed upon the medical graduates to strictly adhere to the oath the take while receiving their degrees as it contains all, which is necessary to make them a good doctor and a good human being at the same time.
He termed medical profession as a noble one and urged the young doctors to attach prime importance to the better service of the ailing humanity and mitigate the sufferings of poor patients.
Shahram Khan said unfortunately, patients do not receive the attention and care in public sector hospitals, which they deserve as human beings and citizens adding that this is due to the flaw of the healthcare delivery system.
He said that the provincial government is trying best to reform the decades old health system and restore the trust of the public on our healthcare delivery system.
While touching upon the reform initiatives of the government introduced in health sector, the provincial minister said that the doctors working in peripheries and far flung areas of the province are being offered attractive salary packages so that the deficiency of doctors in those areas could be made up and thus people of the remote areas could be provided medical treatment facilities at their door steps. Similarly, the board of governors of teaching hospitals has been fully empowered to enhance the salary packages of doctors in their respective hospitals, as they deem appropriate.
