Access to Justice Programme at stake

RAWALPINDI: The terrible poor performance of district police in Rawalpindi has put the future of “Access to justice Programme” at stake amid the reports that it has sent challan of 1,087 cases out of 2,870 cases registered in 30 police stations (PS) of the district Rawalpindi during first two months of this year.

Sadiqabad PS featured at the top of the list of sluggish PSs with sending complete challans of 75 out of 191 registered cases to courts. Airport PS with slight margin clenched second position with sending complete challans of 85 out of 188 cases and Waris Khan PS remained third in the line of inefficient PSs with forwarding complete challan of 79 out 180 registered cases to courts.

The lonely women PS of Rawalpindi demonstrated excellent performance with sending challans of all the four cases registered by it during two months.

The prisoners involved in 1,783 cases out of which challans have not been sent to the courts are languishing in jails.

Sources told Daily Times that among eight PSs of Rawal division, complete challans of 31 out of 69 cases registered in city PS were sent to court, 50 out of 73 cases by Ganjmandi PS, 51 complete, 50 incomplete and 14 interim challans out of 118 cases registered in Ratta Amral PS were filed with courts during the months of January and February this year.

The complete challans of 56 cases, incomplete challans of 76 cases and interim challans of 40 cases out of total 176 cases registered by Pir Wadhai PS were sent to courts, complete challans of 54 cases, incomplete challans of 22 cases and interim challans of 90 cases out of 176 registered cases by New Town PS, complete challans of 75 cases, 14 of incomplete cases and interim challans of 74 cases out of 191 cases by Sadiqabad PS, complete challans of 79 cases, incomplete challans of 47 cases and interim challans of 31 cases out of 180 cases registered in Waris Khan PS, complete challans of 39 cases, incomplete challans of 16 cases and interim challan of 13 cases out of total 70 cases registered in Banni PS.

Among 12 PSs of Pothohar division, complete challans of 78 cases, incomplete challans of 25 cases and interim challans of 49 cases out of total 177 cases registered in Civil Lines PS were sent to court, complete challans of 16 cases, incomplete challans of 10 cases and interim challans of 19 cased out of total 49 cases registered in Moregah PS.

Similarly, complete challans of 85 cases, incomplete challans of 15 cases and interim challans of 72 cases out of total 188 cases registered in Airport PS, complete challans of 34 cases, incomplete challans of eight cases and interim challans of 71 cases out of total 115 cases registered in Cantt PS, complete challans of 52 cases, incomplete challans of 29 cases and interim challans of 25 cases out of total 117 cases registered in Race Course PS, complete challans of 59 cases, incomplete challans of 30 cases and interim challans of 17 cases out of total 110 cases registered in RA Bazaar PS were sent to courts in two months.

Similarly, complete challans of 30 cases, incomplete challans of 30 cases and interim challans of 34 cases out of total 104 cases registered in Naseerabad PS, complete challans of 40 cases, incomplete challans of 22 cases and interim challans of 13 cases out of total 84 cases registered in Westridge PS, complete challans of 25 cases, incomplete challans of 22 cases and interim challans of 32 cases out of total 87 cases registered in Taxila PS, complete challans of 24 cases, incomplete challans of 12 cases and interim challans of 27 cases out of total 71 cases registered in Wah Cantt PS, complete challans of 30 cases, incomplete challans of 19 cases and interim challans of 31 cases out of total 84 cases registered in Wah Sadar PS were sent to courts during the two months from January to February 2016. In the solitary woman station of district Rawalpindi, four cases were registered and the challans of all the four cases were sent to the courts.
