Sir: Noise is not only a nuisance but also a serious environmental problem and a health hazard. Like all other pollution, noise pollution needs to be controlled to preserve the natural sanctity of Murree.
In the past, pressure horns were mostly limited to heavy vehicles like buses and trucks, but these days smaller public transport vehicles like Suzukis and local jeeps plying on the hill station’s roads have installed them too. They are a continuous nuisance and are honked endlessly in an annoying manner, making the lives of residents miserable.
An official told me that the use of pressure horns is illegal under the rules. If that is the case then what is stopping the authorities from implementing the law? The Chief Minister Punjab, Assistant Commissioner Murree and the police authorities are therefore requested to issue strict orders in this regard to impose fines and have these horns removed. It is high time the Punjab government permanently banned the use of pressure horns in Murree.
