LAHORE: A 16-year-old girl committed suicide after jumping from the rooftop of a local hotel within the Qilla Gujjar Singh police limits on Saturday.

According to details, a young girl named Laraib Maryam, daughter of Dr Tariq of Dera Gazi Khan, was staying in Hospitality Inn with her parents for the last two days. On Saturday, Laraib had exchanged harsh words with her parents over some unknown issue and then jumped from the hotel rooftop without any surveillance of the hotel administration.

The hotel administration immediately informed the police and rescue teams, who took her to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Sources said that Laraib’s father was in Lahore on an invitation of a programme. Laraib was observed having a severe argument with her parents, shouts of which were heard by the neighbouring rooms and hotel staff. In a fit of rage, the girl went to the rooftop of the hotel and committed suicide.

After she was found in the parking lot, the police reached the hotel and cordoned off the area. Sources told Daily Times that the police have started investigating the matter, especially the fact that Laraib got access of the rooftop easily. Sources also said that management was trying to hide some information as it would disclose their negligence.

However, a relative of the deceased girl told the media that she sat on the rooftop to take some adventurous pictures, but accidentally slipped and fell down.

The police said that the parents of the girl did not want to probe any legal procedure or postmortem of the body. The police handed over the dead body to her heirs after fulfilling the legal formalities.
