ISLAMABAD: United Nations (UN) would organise a special briefing and session on the role of Pakistan in combating the international drug trafficking networks to reduce drug related demand and harms. The briefing would be held on April 20 (Wednesday) in Islamabad. The special session would consist of a general debate and five interactive, multi-stakeholder round tables.
UNODC Country Representative Cesar Guedes, Ministry of Interior Narcotics Control Division Joint Secretary (Coordination) Muhammad Hafeez, Dost Welfare Foundation President Dr Parveen Azam Khan would attend the briefing. It is immensely important for Pakistan to showcase its resolve in combating the international drug trafficking networks through record seizures during the last three years.
The UN General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on ‘World Drug Problem’ would be an important milestone in achieving the goals set in the policy document of 2009 “Political Declaration and Plan of Action on International Cooperation towards an Integrated and Balanced Strategy to Counter the World Drug Problem” to be achieved by the year 2019.
