For the Love of Selfies!

Author: Sahar Atiq

I swear we won’t forget what you look like if you stop posting selfies on Facebook every second!!! Logging into your fb account and receiving bundles of notifications for nothing else but, a long list of friends complementing a “duck-faced selfie”.

Wonder what makes people repeatedly complementing the same face…doesn’t it makes them feel sick. Your fb pages swamped with selfies, come on! The world is not here to see your “Iam a poser” selfie. West has merely adopted it but Pakistanis have learnt to live with it.

Using hashtags is a new trend that our generation is hooked up to nowadays for grabbing attention as it makes selfies look more toned up. If I was to use a hashtag it would be like

#noselfiefreak#hatehashtags#mydearfriends#areyou#mesmerized#bymy#hashtags#withoutaselfie.

Our generations consider taking selfies a social custom. Taking no selfies at the start of the day to the end makes people feel like something very important has been missed and they would probably act like a fish out of water.

From waking up the selfie list goes like:

#goodmorning #nomakeupselfie

#ihave#washedmyface selfie

#theredlipstick selfie sometimes with a caption “dare to wear red” with puckering lips and pouting like you are a celebrity! (Wonder what good does pouting do to your face? Does it enhance your beauty?)

#Sunday #breakfast #familytime (surely with a half eaten sandwich….the world is dying to know what you put in your sandwich, please don’t keep us in suspense)

After a long chore selfie list, finally there comes a goodnight selfie getting into bed and somehow managing to make a cozy pose.

Selfies are not bound to occasions only usually addicts upload it every single second or maybe when they tend to feel good about themselves. There are some freaks who don’t mind taking selfies whether in a formal getup or in a casual one, maybe they’re not beauty conscious.

We might someday find a before death selfie too.

#theday #ibreathmylast #pains # needprays #deathbedselfie #feelingdying #butselfieisamust

Obviously there won’t be any pouting as the dying person may not be in a state to make a pout. Selfies gaining rounds and going viral became the 2013 word of the year. You can assume for a second why dengue wasn’t the word of the year which went more viral claiming millions of lives.

At present, it’s a unique way to kill boredom as it lets you get yourself with a heavy amount of compliments, or people take selfies just to get themselves noticed who otherwise do not get a chance to be in the lime light.

#tellme #Iampretty #Attentionseeker

Tempted by the concept, people use it as a tool to show off as well. To some extent, getting praises boosts up the self-esteem of people, especially the camera-conscious minds.

Enjoying the selfie trend, the world is unaware that they have switched to the path of narcissism: excessive interest in or admiration of oneself and one’s physical appearance.

But if at some point of life people realise that they’re addicted to a disease, it might not be wrong to say that despite of the fact they will still happily post even more selfies than ever.

#OMG #Selfieaddiction #Butimmastuckwithit #nowayout #fullyobsessed #loveselfiesevenmore

It would simply be the first psychological disorder to which people will owe a great deal of love for being in fashion and making their days even more memorable.
