ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice on Monday asked the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to devise a mechanism for stopping launch of illegal housing societies in the federal capital.

The committee, which met on Monday with Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi in the chair also decided to make ranking of housing societies in the federal capital to aware the public about their legal status.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented its report to the committee regarding the irregularities in land of community centre and illegal cooperative housing societies in the capital city.

The NAB officials said that the illegal housing societies could not be developed without the connivance of Capital Development Authority.

The corruption in this sector could be stopped if 25 percent share of every housing society was be given to the CDA in accordance with the law, they added.

They said that some cases are registered with the NAB and some with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The officials said that the people who owned land in sectors G12 and F12 should be given alternate land to start development work.

Senator Abbassi said that it is the mandate of the committee to streamline the affairs of housing societies in capital city.

He said that all the cases of illegal housing societies should be handled by the NAB coordinating with all the departments concerned.

Planning Commission officials told the committee that heavy fine should be imposed on the persons behind illegal housing societies.

They said that the CDA should devise a mechanism so that all the information related to approved housing schemes could be seen on its website. The launching of illegal housing schemes could be stopped if CDA initiated such projects in its name, they added.
