ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has refused to give extension to four additional judges of the Lahore High Court. Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Monday chaired a meeting of the JCP to consider confirmation of 11 additional judges of the Lahore High Court. The sources said the commission unanimously agreed not to give proposal for extension in the tenure of Justice Hafiz Shahid Nadeem Kahloon, Justice Mushtaq Ahmad Tarar, Justice Aslam Javed Minhas and Justice Farrukh Gulzar Awan. However, the JCP suggested one-year extension for seven judges — Justice Shahid Mubeen, Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem, Justice Erum Sajad Gull, Justice Raja Shahid Mehmood Abbasi, Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sajid Mehmood Sethi and Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar. Presently, 53 judges are working in the Lahore High Court, while the approved strength is 60. A member of the commission said the CJP had agreed to convene a special meeting of the Judicial Commission in the second week of May to consider the Pakistan Bar Council’s proposals relating to amendments to the JCP rules 2010. Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid and Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan were also present at the meeting.
