Court orders federal govt to file reply over HEC chairman appointment

Author: By Hussnain Qureshi

LAHORE – Lahore High Court Justice Shahid Karim on Tuesday gave another chance to the federal government for filing reply to a petition challenging appointment of Dr Mukhtar Ahmad as chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The judge had already issued notice to Dr Mukhtar on a petition moved by a citizen Munir Ahmad and adjourned hearing for a month. Petitioner’s counsel AzharSiddique said that Dr Mukhtar’s appointment is in violation of rules and merit. He submitted that the HEC chairman lacked qualification and experience required for the post. He said that the impugned appointment was not on merit and was mere result of political consideration. He requested to set aside the appointment of the chairman for being unlawful.
