Sindh’s top bureaucrats at odds over control of STEVTA

Author: By Ahmed A Channa

KARACHI: Sindh’s two top most bureaucrats are reportedly at loggerheads over the administrative control of Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA), Daily Times has reliably learnt.

Interestingly, former STEVTA secretary Alam Din Bullo, who is also principal secretary to Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah since long, has clearly refused to return the authority’s official vehicles, which were entitled to
him as authority’s administrative head.

The Services General Administration and Coordination Department (SGA&CD) of the Sindh government has recently transferred and posted a senior officer Iqbal Durrani, who is son-in-law of Sindh CM, as STEVTA secretary.

According to insiders, the newly hired STEVTA secretary, after assuming charge of the post, has demanded official vehicles from the management of the authority for himself and for his personal assistant.

After the demand, the Admin Wing of the STEVTA approached former secretary Alam Din Bullo to return the officials vehicles and fuel cards of the authority so that the same could be allotted to the newly-posted secretary – Iqbal Durrani.

However, Alam Din Bullo clearly refused to return the vehicles, saying, “Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority has a number of vehicles and the authority should allot some other vehicle to the new secretary or buy him (secretary)
new vehicles.”The official vehicle being used by former secretary of the authority is Toyota Corolla (GS190-C) with more than 600 litres of petrol per month, sources added.

Sources claimed that the former secretary was using his bureaucratic influence to get himself again posted as STEVTA secretary. While new secretary what the sources said is known for his “honesty and boldness” and he would not step back at any cost.

Furthermore, sources disclosed that several others vehicles of the STEVTA were in control of other people/officials. They included ex minister Sadiq Ali Memon (Suzuki Cultus GS-6882), Muhammad Siddique Memon/received by Ghulam Sarwar Mangi, SO (Gen) Chief Minister Secretariat (Suzuki Alto GSA-504), Baber Ali Jalbani, DS Staff to CM (Suzuki Cultus GS-9287), Muhammad Jaffar Abbasi, ex-MD STEVTA (Suzuki Alto GSA-367), Nadeem Ahmed Shaikh, ex-PS to Minister/Chairman (Suzuki Cultus GS-9233) and Bushra Bisma Shah, ex-deputy director Public Private Partnership (Suzuki Alto GS-9137).

Pertinent to mention here that the chief minister has already issued orders to the STEVTA managing director to take stern action against those misusing the funds and properties of
the STEVTA.

When contacted, STEVTA Secretary Iqbal Durrani told Daily Times that he had directed the managing director of the authority to take back the official vehicles from Alam Din Bullo and others.
