Over 28 Ramadan bazaars to be set up in city by June 2

LAHORE: Over 28 bazaars would be made functional on June 2 in the city in connection with the upcoming month of Ramadan.

The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) teams would especially inspect the Ramadan bazaars to ensure safety of the citizens besides implementing laws to curb child labour along with ensuring availability of fresh vegetable and fruits, said District Coordinator Officer (DCO) Lahore captain (r) Muhammad Usman while chairing a meeting to review arrangements of security, parking facilities, availability of fresh, clean and healthy food at Ramadan bazaars at the Town Hall on Wednesday.

He directed the town administrations to ensure implementation on Restriction of Employment of Children Ordinance in letter and spirit to successfully eliminate child labour from the society. Assistant commissioners, town administrators, town municipal officers (TMO’s) and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion.

Town administrators and TMOs briefed the DCO regarding arrangements for Ramadan bazaars. It was disclosed that the CDGL would also set up ‘Muhammadi Dastarkhwan’ in various parts of the city for the poor and needy during the holy month.

Usman said that CDGL has identified the areas for setting up Ramadan bazaars in the provincial capital, adding that decision of establishing these Ramadan bazaars was taken to provide maximum relief to the citizens, in line with spirit of Ramadan. He said that citizens could purchase cheaper and quality eatable items from these set ups.

The DCO said that all town administrations, in collaboration with the CDGL officials, would maintain surplus supply of essential commodities in all Ramadan bazaars of the city, adding that CDGL would also set up stalls of standardised quality sugar, chicken and flour bags along with other essential commodities in these bazaars.

Usman said that he would not give permission to shoppers for taking help from children, adding that town administrations would especially keep a check on shops for elimination of child labour. “The monitoring teams will take action against the responsible person in case of not following the rules,” he added.
