Sir: The whole rationale behind paying tax is for the state to provide basic amenities and services to the citizens in return. Now consider what I get in exchange for paying my fair share of taxes. Do I get a feeling of security? No. Do I get to drive on roads that are free of potholes? No. Do I get to live in an environment that is relatively clean and free from pollution? No. Do I get piped water in my home? No. Does the government ensure that the waste generated by my household is picked up regularly and transported to a far-off location without causing any ecological harm to my living surroundings? No.
So why, then, should I pay any tax?
