Pakistan on path to economic stability: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Thrusday said Pakistan is marching on its way to achieve long-term economic stability.

Talking to Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni, the prime minister said his government was fully exploiting its immense potential to bring peace and prosperity in the country, region and the world at large. “We are pursuing a robust national policy to overcome energy issues,” said the prime minister, adding the positive economic indicators reflect Pakistan’s efforts for revival of the economy. He said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance strategy against terrorism and the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb has successfully dismantled the terrorists’ networks and their safe havens. Referring to the Karachi operation, Premier Nawaz said the improved law and order situation and the business-friendly environment have restored confidence of investors; encouraging them to invest in Pakistan.

Italian FM Paolo Gentiloni appreciated the prime minister for leading a war against the extremist ideology in Pakistan. “Your government’s reach out to neighbours and efforts for restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan are highly appreciable,” he said.

While considering the huge potential he said, the present volume of bilateral trade between Italy and Pakistan of $ 1 billion needs to be enhanced.

The Italian foreign minister lauded the government’s progressive reforms agenda and the legislative and administrative measures being undertaken for protection and empowerment of minorities and women. He also briefed the prime minister on the upcoming visit of Italian prime minister to Pakistan. Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Stefano Pontecorvo, Special Assistan to PM Tariq Fatemi and senior officials of the government were also present.
