ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Chaudhry Abdul Majeed said on Thursday that the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) would not have any role in preparation of electoral rolls for the upcoming general election in the state.
Talking to Daily Times exclusively, Majeed said the NADRA would only verify the voter lists prepared by the Election Commission. He said that he totally agreed with the statement of Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif about across the board accountability in Pakistan. He said that terrorism could not be eliminated from Pakistan until corruption is curbed. He said that elections of the Kashmir Council would be held on time and according to the constitution. “The opposition will continue to make a noise; it is its job. They have assured many people of seats in the Kashmir Council, but it doesn’t seem possible for them,” he said.
Responding to a question, Majeed said that land sliding was a natural calamity, but it could have been caused by blasts at the Neelum–Jhelum project. He said the government would reach out to the people affected by land sliding.
The prime minister said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) could not win people’s support in Azad Kashmir. He said that terrorism caused a huge loss to Pakistan as well as the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He said the PPP would win the election in Azad Kashmir by two-third majority and again form its government. He said that some federal ministers’ dream to conquer Kashmir would remain unfulfilled.
Majeed said the AJK government not only condemned the killings in the Indian-held Kashmir, but also protested against the Indian brutalities against the Kashmiri people. He said, “Our government supported the Kashmir cause as well as the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) more than any government in Azad Kashmir.”
