LAYYAH: At least nine people, including five brothers, died after consuming poisonous sweets in Chak 105/TDA near Fattehpur in Layyah district while dozens others fell ill.
According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson, the incident took place when a resident of Chak No-105 TDA namely Umar Hayat brought sweets from a shop owned by Tariq Mahmood and Khalid Mahmood located at Chowk-111 Morh Toil-Indus on the birth of his grandson and distributed it among the people of the area.
As a result, about nine persons including five brothers – Shahbaz, Irfan, Ramzan, Sikandar and another – and Abdul Ghafoor, Muhammad Ameer and two kids Khizar and Hafeez died.
Rescue 1122 has shifted nine persons to District Headquarters Hospital Layyah included Danish, Deeba, Saima, Razia, Ghulam Murtaza, Javaid, Mushtaq Ali, Shaista and Nasira Bibi for treatment.
Police said that the shop, from where the sweets were purchased, has been sealed and a case has been registered.
