Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan have no property abroad

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has total declared assets worth Rs 1.96 billion while he has no property abroad, according to the details issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The ECP, severely criticized in recent days for taking down the details of assets of parliamentarians from its website, on Thursday issued details of the assets of the National Assembly members.

According to the data available, the prime minister does not own any property overseas while his son Hussain Nawaz transferred him Rs 21 crore and 56 lakh from the overseas business.

The PM has two house worth Rs 25 crore and 40 lakh while Kalsoom Nawaz is owner of four houses worth Rs 430.43 million and 38 thousands and the total cost of five vehicle are Rs 10.42 lakh and 74 thousands.

As per the list, the PM has Rs 60.48 lakh, 54 thousands and 749 in his seven accounts while he possesses Rs 23 lakh and 26 thousands in cash. PM’s wife has Rs 75 lakh and 72 thousands and 612 in her three accounts.

According to the list, the PM has share of worth Rs 130.20 million, 39 thousands and 930 in five mills while Kalsoom Nawaz shares in four mills are worth Rs 6.6 million, 78 thousands and 720 while she has no property abroad.

The Sharif family is owner of a house situated at Upper Mall in Lahore worth Rs 250 million, Jati Umra house worth Rs 4 million, agriculture land in Lahore worth Rs 99 crore and 25 lakh and 20 thousands while agriculture land in Sheikhupura is worth Rs 10.78 million, 12 thousands and 500. Their agriculture land in Sheikhupura is worth Rs 70million, a house in Murre worth Rs 100 million, a house in Changla Gali worth Rs 80.3 million, 38 thousands and 830.

PM’s Chaudhry Sugar mills is worth Rs 120.1million, 25 thousands and 380, Hudaibiya Engendering Company Private Ltd is worth Rs 2.2million, 21 thousands and 300, Hudabya Paper Mills is worth Rs 3.4 million, 34 thousands and 250, Muhammad Bakhsh Textile Mills is worth over Rs 4.6 million.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has assets worth of Rs 1 billion and 310 million.

According to the ECP, Imran Khan has no offshore property while Bani Gala house worth Rs 750 million was given to him as gift by his ex wife Jemima Goldsmith. He owns Zaman Park house worth Rs 220 million and has a Prado jeep worth Rs 5million. He is also the owner of a luxury flat situated on the Constitution Avenue and has two cows worth three lakh rupees and one buffalo, while Reham Khan has 5.2 million in her bank accounts.

Captain (r) Safdar, the son-in-law of PM, has total declared assets worth more than one crore while Hamza Shahbaz has assets worth Rs 34 crore. Opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah has total declared assets worth Rs 4crore and 86 lakh.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman possesses assets worth Rs 6.8 million but does not own any car. Jamshed Dasti is the poorest parliamentarian with total declared assets worth Rs 2,653 only. The page of NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s asset details is missing from the EC website.

Under the Representation of People Act 1976 section 42(A) and Senate Election Act 25 (A) it is mandatory for parliamentarians to declare assets held by them, their spouses and their dependents. “Every member shall, on a form prescribed under clause (f) of sub-section (2) of section 12, submit a statement of assets and liabilities of his own, his spouse and dependents annually to the Commission by the thirtieth day of September each year,” says the law.

The laws further state that the statements of assets and liabilities submitted with ECP “shall be published in the official Gazette and copies thereof may be obtained on payment of prescribed fee”. The commission can stop members who fail to submit the asset details by October 15.
