New ICT police chief vows to weed out crime from metropolis

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) led by its President Atif Ikram Sheikh called on newly appointed capital’s Inspector General of Police (IG) Tariq Masood Yasin and discussed with him the ways and means to address the security related concerns of the business community.

While addressing the delegation, IG Tariq Masood Yasin said that the businessmen are playing an important role in the development of the federal capital and all possible efforts would be made to facilitate the growth of business activities by improving security arrangements in markets, commercial centres and industrial areas. He said that the demand of business community for representation in police reconciliation committees (PRCs) would be given due consideration to work jointly for improving law and order situation in the federal capital.

The IG said that a close liaison among Islamabad Capital territory (ICT) police, business community and citizens is the need of the hour to ensure a secure environment for citizens and for the growth of business activities. He said that the installation of security cameras in commercial centres by market unions would help the police in overcoming security problems adding that there should be regular interaction between ICT police and ICCI to discuss matters of mutual interest and develop consensus and strategies to overcome crime and improve security arrangements in business centres, industrial areas and other important places of the capital city.

While speaking on the occasion, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Atif Ikram Sheikh congratulated Tariq Masood Yasin on his appointment as IG police for the federal capital and hoped that he would take strong measures to make the capital city a safe and peaceful city. He appreciated the efforts of ICT police for improving law and order situation in the federal capital. He said that a safe and secure environment is essential for fostering business and investment activities in the capital city. He was of the view that the presence of enhanced police force in commercial and industrial areas would enable entrepreneurs to run business activities with better sense of security and confidence.

He said that the use of security related latest technology and equipment in business and industrial areas and other sensitive places would help in coping with security challenges more effectively. He further said that the representation of business community in police reconciliation committees (PCRs) would contribute positively to curb the crime and improving security situation in the federal capital.

Founder Group Chairman Khalid Javed, ICCI Vice President Sheikh Abdul Waheed, Tariq Sadiq, Khalid Iqbal Malik, Zafar Bakhtawari, Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi, Sheikh Amir Waheed, Mehmood Ahmed Warraich, M Ashfaq Chatha, Saifur Rehman and others were present in the delegation of ICCI.

On a separate note, the capital city police will not leave alone its brave police officials rendering great sacrifices in the line of duty and every challenge will be countered through joint efforts like a team.

This was stated by newly appointed capital’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tariq Masood Yasin during his visit to see the two injured constables Shoukat Ali and Muhammad Daud who got seriously injured in different incidents while performing their official duties and were admitted in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). The Industrial Area SP Muhammad Amir Niazi, ASP Saad Aziz, Industrial Area Police Station SHO Syed Sajjad Hussain Bukhari including other police officials were also present on the occasion.

The IG gave them cash prizes and also presented flowers buckets along with prayers for their early recovery. The IG said that these policemen are the assets of Islamabad police and every possible step would be taken for their welfare. He said that the officers and Jawaans of capital police department are rendering sacrifices for protection to the lives and property of the citizens. The IG said that we all are like a family and they are no more alone adding that each challenge will be countered successfully through mutual efforts.
