VU, WWF-Pakistan to promote environmental education

LAHORE: Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) and WWF-Pakistan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote environmental education amongst the youth of the country. Through this MoU, both organisations would establish formal relationship to raise environmental awareness and tackle the environmental challenges through innovative research. Moreover, the two organisations would collaborate to develop joint research proposals. The ceremony was held at MA Jinnah Campus of varsity on Monday in which VU Rector Dr Naveed A Malik, WWF-Pakistan Director General Hamid Naqi Khan were also present. As per the MoU, VUTV would also broadcast documentaries of WWF on its TV channels. Both organisations agreed to engage students in various environmental awareness initiatives of WWF-Pakistan including the eco-internship programme, youth development programme, volunteer engagement initiative, Earth Hour and nature carnival. VU and WWF would also organise joint seminars and workshops to mark environmentally important days at the VU campuses along with capacity building and exposure events for the VU students and faculty. WWF-Pakistan would explore the possibility to develop curriculum of the short-courses on different environmental issues including the green office certification programme, jointly with the VU. The ceremony ended on a positive note and conviction that the agreement signed would deliver significant mutual benefits to both the organisations and that all possible efforts would be made to make the MoU as much productive as possible.
