ISLAMABAD – Former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Raja Parvez Ashraf on Tuesday demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation and asked him to present himself for accountability regarding allegations of offshore companies against his family.
While talking to journalists, he said “No Pakistani has levelled allegations against PM Nawaz or his family,” adding Panama papers have put spotlight on offshore wealth of his family. He lamented that the federal government did not consult opposition parties about the terms of references (ToR) of Panama investigations.
To a question, he said the PPP did not save the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government; it only differed with Pakistan Tehreel-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’ style of protests.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister Zahid Hamid ruled out any changes in the TORs, saying that not a single word will be added or deleted. The minister said that opposition parties were making unnecessary noise on non-issues.
On the other hand, opposition parties convened a meeting on May 2 in order to evolve a consensus about their strategy against the government.
