ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Sub-Committee on Electoral Reforms has sought suggestions from all political parties on the procedure for appointment of new members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The sub-committee met under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid here on Tuesday.

Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Hamid said that incumbent members of the ECP were going to retire on Jun 10. He said the committee had asked the representatives of all political parties to consult their leaders and give their input on the procedure for appointment of new members of the ECP.

The committee would discuss the matter at the next meeting, he added. To a question, he said the government had written to the Supreme Court to form an independent judicial commission to investigate the reports of the Panama Papers relating to offshore companies of prime minister’s family. He said the government had empowered the judicial commission and prepared its terms of reference (ToRs). He said the opposition had not given any suggestions with regard to commission’s terms of reference. He said the opposition was doing politics of criticism. He said the government would not revisit the ToRs. The government would fulfil all requirements for the judicial commission and ensure its access to any kind of record, the minister said.
