Why education is important and why everyone is not educated?

Author: Naira Waseem

Living in the 21st century, many of us know the importance of education. People even pretend to be educated but the question is do we all know what exactly education is? I mean if we look around we can see many fake degree holders. Many of them hold important posts in the government. No offence but do they really know where they are taking the whole nation? No, they don’t!

We are living in a society where money is being spent on different projects and welfare of citizens but no one is realising that we are far behind many countries in the field of education. It is because in our country, unlike others, education is not a priority. Our leaders should see what problems are being faced by the youth. Every city has schools, colleges, and universities but rural areas lack these facilities.

Not only villages but some under-developed cities and provinces in Pakistan are facing difficulties when it comes to education. Students are migrating from backward areas toward developed cities. They have to leave their families and houses behind. They live in hostels and tolerate so many extra expenses and try to adjust themselves with unknown people, customs and traditions. The Government needs to take notice of their problems. Everyone wishes to be educated but due to lack of facilities many people give up their desires.

The leaders have to realise that only Parha Likha Punjab will not be able to serve the whole country; other provinces also need to be developed and their basic needs should be fulfilled. The government legislates every year but it is not taking any positive step towards building more and more schools, colleges and universities in every city and village.

It is education that helps us differentiate between right and wrong. Through education one learns ethical and moral values that help in making the world peaceful. Education helps us live an independent life and. Educated people are a key to economic growth of a nation. Education is important for everyone. Educated people never let anyone snatch their rights. They can fight for what is right. The government should work hard for the betterment of education and ultimately, the people.
