Aqeel wins CAS Khyber Tennis Cup for 17th time

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan No. 1 Aqeel Khan won the 35th Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Khyber Cup Open Tennis Championship at the PAF Officers’ Mess in Peshawar on Wednesday. Aqeel won the title for 17th time in a row. Aqeel defeated Mohammad Abid 6-1, 6-1 and 6-3 in the men’s singles final. Air Marshal Asad Abdur Rehman Khan Lodhi, Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Support), was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony. In the Boys Under-18 final, Muazammil Murtaza upset top seed Haris Irfanul Haq in a thrilling contest 7-6, 4-6 and 6-2. In the Boys’ Under-14 final, Shoaib Khan defeated Hamza bin Rehan 5-7, 6-1 and 6-2. In the doubles final, Shehzad Khan and Yasir Khan beat Aqeel Khan and Heera Ashiq 6-3 and 6-4. The championship was played from April 21 to 27 and carried a prize money of Rs.600,000. All top ranking national players participated in the tournament.
