Committee for better Pak-Afghan ties

ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Panel on Foreign Affairs proposed strict border security on Durand line so that the terrorists could not taken benefit from it.

The meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs held at Parliament House on Wednesday with Awais Khan Leghari Chairman of the committee in the chair.

The committee also suggested to enhance people to people contact between Pakistan and Afghanistan for better relations between the two neighbors.

During the meeting Aftab Ahmad Sherpao Convener of sub-committee briefed on draft recommendations on Pak-Afghanistan relations saying due to Afghan President’s statement against Pakistan after recent attacks in Kabul, Pakistan could not succeeded to bring different groups of Taliban on negotiation table.

He said that terrorists activities in both countries affecting relations. He suggested strict border security from both sides.

Sherpao said that earlier trilateral mechanism among Pakistan, Afghanistan and United States was present at highest level, which helped to resolve the issues among three states.

Leghari said that the tripartite mechanism once again should be restored. He said UN Observers are present in India and Pakistan, then why not this type of mechanism be created on Durand line.

Dr. Mazari said that the presence of UN Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan is just because Kashmir is disputed territory. These both are two different issues.

Earlier, Rana Afzal Khan said that Pakistan should not given priority only to Pakhtoons in Afghan policy and other ethnic groups like Tajiks, Uzbeks and others.ethnic groups should also be taken on board. It will be wrong that only liking to see Pakhtoon government in Afghanistan.

Sherpao said that it was Musharraf’s policy that Pakhtoon led government is acceptable for Pakistan, which is wrong policy.

Committee earlier, informed by DG of United Nations that last report presented in UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) by Pakistan through its representative
in UN.

Committee formed sub-committee under the convenership of Daniyal Aziz. Dr. Shireen Mazari, Rana Afzal, Naeema Kishwar and one member will be included from PPP. Sub Committee will look technical and other all relevant matter of UNCAC and will submit suggestions to the committee.
