The World Dance Day

Author:

Sir: The World Dance Day is observed every year on 29th of April by the International Dance Council (CID), an umbrella organisation within Unesco, striving for the increasing awareness about importance of dance among the people, as well as to persuade governments all over the world to provide proper place to dance in all education systems, from primary to higher levels.

The day was established in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute and the main purpose of Dance Day events is to attract the attention of the wider public to the art of dance. It is a fact that dance plays an essential role in a society and every nation has its own unique style of dancing. So, Pakistan has very rich folk dance traditions art and culture which is among those working countries to promote traditional dance from the diverse regions of Pakistan, including Balochi dance, Pashtun dance, Sindhi dance, and Punjabi dance.

The country has its very own trademark dance, which highlights the traditional values and cultures of that respective region where each province have their own popular culture of dancing, such as, Chaap and Jhumar, is the most popular dance of Balochistan, KPK popular dance is Kailash dance, Sindh popular dance is Dhammal dance and Bhangra is the popular dance of Punjab region in Pakistan. The central purpose behind celebrating this movement is to recognise the various facets of the art. So, I humbly request the government of Pakistan to provide a proper place for dancing in all educational institution, from primary to higher levels so that the student’s interest must not be neglected in the country.
