LAHORE: The Next Summer Spring Golf Tournament will be played and contested over two days at the par 72 Lahore Gymkhana Club Golf Course here from Saturday (today). This championship, backed by the NEXT group will enable keen and able golfers to win honours and attractive prizes under fiercely competitive conditions. On the first day of this two days championship, the events at stake will be in the category for juniors (15 years and below), women (36 handicap and below), veterans (one category is 70 to 80 years and another is above 80 years) and seniors (in age bracket above 55 years up to less than 70). A total of 85 eager participants will vie for honours and top positions in each of these categories. As against this the seasoned and accomplished amateurs numbering 122 will compete on Sunday on stroke play basis.
The tee off for women will be at 6:00 am and the seniors tee off at 10am. Amongst the women, the adept ones are Maryama Khan, Sameea Javed Ali, Naureen Malik and Rabia Tiwana. In the veterans category, the single handicappers are Imtiaz Pervaiz and Hamayun Rashid and in the middle handicap range the more capable ones are Dr Zafar Aziz, Azam Khan, Javed Hameed, M Iqbal Khan, Farooq Khan and Mian Abdul Waheed. The seniors section is loaded with golfers of immense ability and the single handicappers’ number is eleven. They include players like Javed A Khan, Shafiq Bhatti, Asad Khan, Dr Tariq H Malik, Jameel Khalid, Saeed Ahmed, Mian Tariq Pervaiz, Zakaullah, Omer Farooq, Asad Niaz and Asad Amin Sheikh. Also highly proficient in the seniors’ category are Wajid Sethi, Irfan Saeed, Irfan Raja, Imran Mairaj, Tariq Baloch, Shaukat Javed, Pervez Saeed Mir and Farrukh Latif. These veterans and seniors are all charged up to achieve honours and seek top prizes that the Next Spring Summer Tournament offers. And the winning hopefuls must remember that over the stroke play competition even able and adept ones will find their skills tested to the full before they can make any wothwhile effort to lay a claim on the highly attractive prizes.
