ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday said that the tax money collected from common citizens was being spent on personal advertisements by media cell led by Maryam Nawaz Sharif and has expressed his resolve to approach National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in this regard.

Talking to reporters before departure for Lahore, the PTI chief said that all his assets were in Pakistan and were already declared, adding that PM Nawaz Sharif should inform the nation that from where he got his wealth. “PM has not declared his offshore companies … he should declare his assets and tax details in parliament as Britain Premier David Cameroon did,” he demanded.

Imran Khan said that the names of family members of PM were included in Panama leaks but name of Jehangir Tareen was not there as he legally transferred his money abroad.

Later talking to media in Lahore, Imran Khan endorsed Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s call for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign till completion of probe into revelations by the Panama Papers.

Imran alleged that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was defaming Pakistan army, adding that if he was not involved in any wrongdoing, he should tell the truth to the people. He said that it was the responsibility of Nawaz Sharif to respond to the allegations being leveled against him. Imran said that democracy in its true spirit will only prevail in the country after transparent elections take place. He said that Nawaz Sharif considers his monarchy as democracy.

Khan stated that United Kingdom’s PM David Cameron did not accuse his opposition with regards to the Panama leaks. Instead, he had to clarify his position, he said, and added that when Nawaz Sharif was asked about the scandal, he headed towards Mansehra to address a rally.

The PTI chairman said that in a democratic setup it is his right to question the government over its actions. He said that the Panama Papers have caused an upheaval around the globe and that it was his right to question the rulers if the public’s money was not being spent in the correct manner. “I will give Nawaz Sharif one chance … and he will have to give answers this time. As long as he does not provide answers, the movement will continue,” Imran maintained.

To a question about party’s rally to be held in Lahore today, Imran Khan said that the rally will be a spectacular one, adding that he doesn’t have any security threat other than that from Nawaz Sharif. “Nawaz Sharif knows that he can convince all the opposition (parties), not Imran,” he said.
