KARACHI: Jamat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has said that “Jihad” against corruption is the need of the hour, making it clear that the JI does not want to derail the democracy or democratic process but is determined to eliminate corruption from the society.
He expressed these views on Saturday after inaugurating a camp, held for a “signature campaign” against corruption. The camp was established by JI youth wing at Gulshan-e-Iqbal area.
Siraj said a strong message would be delivered to all segment of the society with the signature of millions of individuals against the menace of corruption. He said that corruption has become gangrene for the society as individuals from the ruling class to the grass root level of the society have been indulged in corrupt practices.
The JI chief was of the view that Panama leaks have already unveiled the corruption of political elite. Rejecting the terms of reference (ToRs) announced by the government, he said the JI has has proposed 13 points as terms of references for the proposed commission on Panama leaks to scrutinise the financial matters. He also vowed to continue the anti-corruption drive till its logical end.
JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Zubair Ahmed Gondal, Usama Razzi and others also expressed their views on the occasion.
A large number of people showed their interest in the campaign and imposed their signatures. Free flow of traffic on all roads was also ensured.
