Canadian beauty blogger and Instagram user Farahdukha, has made a name for herself by showing off quick and unusual beauty hacks. She’s taught us how to use onions to grow thicker brows and that garlic can keep blemishes at bay.

Now she’s back with another quirky trick.

Plagued by the itchy, dry annoyance that is dandruff? Turns out the answer might be hiding in your bathroom. Like, right now. Go check. The gorgeous gal took to her account to demonstrate how mouthwash is an easy, affordable remedy for fighting dandruff.

Farah Dukhai recommends spritzing a blend of half water, half Listerine onto the scalp, then rinsing it away after a few minutes. She claims that it will make you feel minty fresh and look flake-free.

She says that her solution will leave your scalp tingly, cool, and refreshed and most definitely dandruff free.

“Listerine has menthol, thymol, eucalyptol and methyl salicylate – all which make it an antifungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory and perfect for getting rid of dandruff,” she explained in her caption.

Menthol, thymol and methyl salicylate are analgesics, which mean they soothe and stop itching. Eucalyptol is indeed antifungal and considering that dandruff is a type of fungus, it could help treat the ailment. Though you should certainly consult a dermatologist before testing out this hack, it seems largely safe and effective. Just be sure that your scalp isn’t sunburned before spritzing it with mouthwash – the analgesics in the formula could irritate your skin.
