LAHORE: A woman on Wednesday attempted to commit suicide by cutting herself with blade in front of the Central Police Office (CPO) while protesting against the land grabbers and also against the lethargic behaviour of police officers on the issue.

The protesting woman was identified as Hira Usman from Cavalry Ground Factory area police limits. According to details, Hira had reached outside the CPO and staged a sit-in on the road. She chanted slogans against the SP Cantt, DSP and concerned police officials who did not entertain his application against land grabbers. The woman raised her voice for justice for around half an hour continuously but no officer came outside to hear her problems.

Later, the protesting woman took out a blade from her purse and cut her body from different places. A large number of road users, locals, rescue teams and others gathered outside the CPO near Church Road Old Anarkali. Some women police officers and other volunteers approached her and tried to stop her from cutting herself. Hira explained that she had bought the house of one Zubaida of Cavalry Ground and paid her around 70 to 80 percent of the total amount.

However, he added, the owner of the house fraudulently transferred her ownership again with the help of local police. She said that Zubaida not only grabbed the house illegally but also threatened her of dire consequences. She blamed that the SP Cantt and DSP along with the local police did not entertain her application even after passage of several months.

The police high ups reached the spot and gave assurance to Hira that justice would be provided at the earliest. Hira also appealed the Punjab chief minister to take notice of the issue and help her get the house back.

Separately, A man involved in criminal activities fired and wounded a girl and her mother for denying his friendship proposal in North Cantt police jurisdiction.

The injured were identified as 22-year-old Shagufta and her mother Shariffa Bibi. Police said that the accused, identified as Sajid of same area, was involved in several criminal activities before as well. He sent a friendship message to Shagufta through his friend, but she denied. As a result, Sajid got infuriated and forcibly entered her house and opened fire on them. Both mother and daughter, present in the house at that time, received serious injuries. The accused managed to escape from the scene. Upon being informed, police shifted the injured persons to a nearby hospital where their condition was said to be stable. Police registered a case against Sajid and did not arrest him until the filing of this report.
