FAISALABAD: National Textile University (NTU) of Faisalabad has issued an elaborate dress code for its staff and students, which bans them from wearing jeans among other clothing items. The code claimed to have been established in order to promote a positive image of the educational institute and to maintain good moral, religious and cultural values.

According to the notification of NTU, the female members of the university should not wear tights or see-through dresses, T-shirts, dresses bearing language or art/slogans and printed pictures, torn clothes, jogging or exercise clothes, untidy or immodest dress, loose shoes, stylish sunglasses and designed caps, shorts or sleeveless shirts and shawls. The university also forbade its students from wearing half sleeves and sleeveless shirts in addition to using excessive makeup or sporting expensive jewellery. The students of NTU appear to have no issues with the dress code and have also vowed to follow it. Such dress codes have previously been introduced by many public universities across the country, including National University of Sciences and Technology. The NTU Director Tanveer has defended the varsity initiative by establishing its importance in training the students for professional life. He also stated that anyone found not following the instructions will face severe penalization.
