LAHORE: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was arrested on Thursday for the alleged rape of a girl in the Kahna police limits.

Punjab Inspector General Mushtaq Sukhera has taken notice of the incident and ordered CCPO Lahore to investigate the matter. CCPO Lahore Captain (r) Muhammad Amin Wains has constituted a three-member committee to probe the matter.

An FIR was filed against the accused DSP after the 14-year-old girl accused the official of raping her. The DSP is being held at the Kahna police station and the girl would undergo a medical examination, said Model Town Superintendent Police Captain (r) Mustansir Feroz.

While talking to Daily Times, Model Town SP Investigation Ammara Athar said that the culprit would be brought to justice, adding that the girl was aged between 14 and 18 years and used work as a maid. “She has been shifted to hospital for medical test, while DSP Imran Babar has denied the charges, claiming that he is being wrongly accused of the act,” the SP added.

According to the CCPO Office spokesman, Khana Police has registered a case against DSP Imran Babar on the charges of kidnap and rape on the complaint of victim Sana’s mother Nasim Akhtar. The spokesman said that Kahna Police produced DSP Imran before the court where the DSP also talked with media, blaming the government as well as IG for framing him.

DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf took notice of the media talk and suspended the station house officer (SHO) Kahna.

It is pertinent to mention that DSP Imran was suspended from his post on February 20, 2015, and there were at least 10 criminal cases against him in different police stations for various charges. It is worth mentioning that the accused was active DSP at Rang Mahal Police Station. He had claimed in a press conference that all the major street crimes were operational under the supervision of Central Investigation Agency (CIA) SSP Umer Virk.
