Nawaz to respond to opp queries on Panama leaks in NA

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is all set to respond to opposition’s queries regarding Panama leaks in the National Assembly session starting from Monday.

Government sources told Daily Times that all PML-N MNAs have been directed to make sure their attendance during the assembly session and be ready to respond to the opposition, especially the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

“We have suggested to the prime minister during a meeting of the coalition partners that he should use the platform of parliament to answer the questions of opposition parties on Panama leaks and the prime minister agreed to it,” a leader from the allied parties said. The Senate session would start on Monday. The opposition parties have majority in the Upper House and may give tough time to the government on Panama issue.

“It’s an important issue and we cannot close our eyes from it. Government is bound to reply to our questions in parliament,” PPP chief whip in National Assembly Ijaz Jakhrani told Daily Times.

Sources said that the prime minister is likely to answer the letter of Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Monday. Law Minister Zahid Hamid has been given task to finalise the draft of the letter that would be sent to the opposition leader. Government is likely to highlight in the latter its concerns over the opposition’s terms of reference on Panama inquiry, the sources said.
