ISLAMABAD: The work on 90-kilometre Sialkot-Lahore Motorway would be undertaken in the near future, an official source said on Sunday.

He said that the project would cost Rs 56 billion and will be built on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis and it would be completed within 39 months adding that the proposed motorway project would help link remote areas with big cities and reduce the distance between Sialkot and Lahore.

The official said the mega project would not only ensure fast inter-city travel but also provide economic boom as well as create employment opportunities in the region. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved the 90-kilometre motorway project adding that the region’s remote and rural areas would be connected to the said motorway. He said that it would be constructed on Build-Operate and Own (BOT) system with total estimate cost of Rs 45 billion.

He disclosed that the motorway would start from Sahowala-Sambrial and will end at Kala Shah Kaku via Daska, Gujranwala and Kamonki. He further said the project has a great commercial viability, which would be expanded to Kharian from Sambrial in the second phase. He said that it would be the busiest road in the country following the growing flow of traffic in the region.
