DADU: The citizens of Dadu have demanded chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah to direct Sindh chief secretary and commissioner Hyderabad to organise a Bachat Bazaar so as to provide relief to them from high prices of essential food items like fruits, vegetables, meat and chicken.

During a survey conducted in the bazaars and markets by the Daily Times on Sunday, people complained that no Bachat Bazaar was organised by district administration so that the poor section of the population could be relieved from increasing prices of daily useable articles like fruit and, vegetables.

A vegetable seller Ahmed Khan Babar said that they were being supplied vegetables at double prices from market; therefore they were selling them costly.

Mohammad Amin Meerani criticized elected representatives, saying that they show up during the election for votes and afterwards they just sleep in air conditioned rooms; because they are not solving the problems of their voters. He said that if there is no check and balance, then extra charging is no longer going to be a strange phenomenon. He further said that it was the apathy of district administration responsible for not organizing the Bachat Bazar.

Ghulam Mustafa Solangi, president of chamber and commerce Dadu said that non-cooperation between administration and market committee officials was the main hindrance towards Bachat Bazar. Other citizens also shared the same opinion and called it a district administration failure.

Chambers of commerce and market committee hurled allegations at shopkeepers that they were not cooperating for bringing about a Bachat Bazaar as they would lose extra profit.

DC Dadu, Raja Shahzaman Khuhro when contacted by the Daily Times, stated that in each union council of Dadu district, a Utility Store was opened and all Utility Stores were supplying all food items at cheap rates to the people.

DC Dadu further said that all Mukhtiarkars and assistant commissioners are directed to carry out raids on bazaars and markets and take action against profiteers.

DC Dadu also called shopkeepers responsible for the non availability of Bachat Bazaar in a query on the bazaar. Hence, in general, all stakeholders freed themselves by blaming shopkeepers who would not dare to say ‘no’ to them.
