Special lanes for ambulances

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Karachi is a massive and one of the most thickly populated cities. Its ever increasing population has made it very congested and crowded. This congestion results in heavy traffic on narrow roads. The number of vehicles has doubled but not the roads.

This heavy traffic has many ill effects. One thing that I want to highlight is about ambulances rushing towards their destiny in order to save lives. Ambulances stuck in traffic jams on the way to hospital are a common sight in Karachi.

Worse still, people have lost their civic sense. Ambulances should be given the highest priority but people don’t care enough to give way to ambulances. People see lights flashing, sirens blaring, but they have become merciless.

For them, reaching on time is much more important than a life. The government should reserve special lanes for emergencies to ensure that no ambulance gets stuck in traffic.

Traffic police should make sure that the lane is strictly reserved for emergencies only. It is also the duty of citizens to be kind enough to give space to ambulances so that they can reach hospitals in time. Lives are really precious and should be saved at any cost.
