Zulfi says politicians must be held accountable

Author: Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Zulfi Bukhari, a close friend of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, said on Tuesday it was a legal and common practice for companies and businessmen like him to establish commercial entities in different jurisdictions. Talking to Daily Times, Bukhari said, “We must hold these politicians accountable for the sake of transparency, and not allow them to deflect [people’s attention] from their own murky affairs. Like other British-Pakistani businessmen, I have and will continue to invest in Pakistan and its people by supporting important causes. I am proud to support the Shaukat Khanum Hospital and the Namal College as well as other notable causes. I’m happy to donate and support a friend in the political and charitable work he does. I’m no ‘financier’ and my donations aren’t ulterior.” Bukhari said, “Perhaps one should look at parties and politicians that seem to suspiciously fund themselves as well as their inner circles and friends. My business and my family’s businesses have been in the UK for the last many decades.” Bukhari said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was obligated to answer people’s questions. He said, “Ask the PM of Pakistan and his cronies about their financial affairs. Ask them about their families’ financial affairs. The public has the RIGHT to know and demand answers from them.”
