Budget propitious with huge allocations for 16 energy projects

ISLAMABAD: Decision has been taken to allocate billion of rupees in the budget for the financial year 2016-17 for construction of 16 energy projects in the country under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Funds will be released through PSDP 2016-17 for completion of these projects on priority basis till 2018 and with the completion of these 16 projects 10400 megawatt electricity will be added to National Grid Station (NGS).

Work is underway on two coal-fired power plants at port Qasim Karachi under CPEC. Power generation capacity of one plant is 660 megawatt while total capacity of these plants stand at 1320 megawatts.

Work will be executed on priority basis on power projects including Doski Kumari hydro power stations of 870 megawatt capacity, Sahiwal Coal Power Plant of 1320 megawatt, Hydro China Dadu hydro power plant of 50 megawatt, Gwadar coal power project of 300 megawatt, UEP Thatta of 100 megawatt, Sachal wind farm of 50 megawatt, China Saink Jhamper Thatta 50 megawatt, Rahim Yar Khan coal power project of 1320 megawatt, Shinghai electric China Limited of 1320 megawatt, Tariff hydropower station of 720 megawatt, Hubco coal power plant of 660 megawatt, Maniadi to Lahore transmission line of 660 megawatt and Port Qasim-Faisalabad transmission line of 660 megawatt capacity, The completion of these projects will help rein in load shedding in the country.

Work on some projects under CPEC is near to completion. Some projects will be completed by the end of 2017 and some by June, 2018. The power generated from them will be added to national grid station.
