ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee for Law and Justice has presented a comprehensive report against 119 illegal housing societies in the capital and directed the concerned authorities to take strict action against the owner and officials as well involved in.

According to the details Senator Kalsoom Parveen raised a question in the upper house about the steps taken by the federal government against the illegal housing societies in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

The parliamentary committee under the chairmanship of Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi considered the matter and took the concerned institutions into confidence and probes the malefaction.

The committee found that officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) were involved in the scam and requested the law enforcement agencies to take action against them.

The members personally paid number of visits time and again to the locations to save the owner’s concerns but found that there were 28 societies who did not fulfill legal requirement. Thus the committee recommended the authorities to not only seize their bank accounts.

Chairman committed directed NAB, CDA and ICT to ensure that confide purchasers of the land/plots were not reprimanded and legal action was strictly confided to owner of the illegal schemes.

DG NAB was given two weeks to differentiate societies that were in some way discrepant from those that did not exist. He also stressed that accountability of officers that assisted in this creation of these illegal schemes must be taken to risk.

After the investigations it found that CDA has remained dormant in this issue of the mushroom growth of Housing Schemes. CDA failed to stop development and construction of the houses in the town. Thus it found that CDA officials’ role fall within the jurisdiction of ICT/CDA must be identified. Because these societies were launched in non-permissible zones and trapped the poor people. Many of these housing societies have less than 400 kanal areas which are against the regulation of CDA. +
