QUETTA: National Party, one of the coalition partners of the PML-N-led government in Balochistan, on Sunday launched a self-accountability campaign against its law makers following a mega corruption scandal unearthed last week.

“We have launched self-accountability of our legislators after this scandal,”said Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo, president of the National Party, at a press conference here. Former chief minister Dr Abdul Maalik Baloch, Mir Tahir Bizenjo and other party leaders were also flanked by Senator Bizenjo.

The decision to make the assets of party’s lawmakers public was taken during the central committee meeting. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had recovered bags full of local and foreign currencies from the residence of former secretary finance Mushtaq Raisani.

Following the recovery of money, chief minister’s finance adviser Mir Khalid Langove, who belongs to the National Party, tendered resignation from his post till the completion of probe into the corruption scandal. In response to a question, Senator Bizenjo said that Langove was in contact with him and he would appear before NAB within next couple of days.

NAB has already issued two notices to Langove to appear before the bureau and answer some questions related to the corruption scandal. The party has also formed a commission comprising Mir Tahir Bizenjo, Senator Mir Kabir Muhammad Shahi and Jan Muhammad Buledi to investigate into the assets of legislators.

Lashingout at the opposition, Dr Baloch said that everyone knows who made allotments of land in the past. “No corruption charges can be proved against me,” he said, dispelling impression about selling out of gold and copper Reko Diq project. Langove said that he resigned because his department was facing such grave allegations of corruption and foul play, which does not morally allow him to stay in his post.
