KARACHI: Quintuplets, three girls and two boys, born at the Darul Sehat Hospital (DSH) Karachi last week died on Monday.
According to a Darul Sehat official statement, “Quintuplet born to Waheeda Javid on Friday, May 13, 2016 has expired due to pre-mature birth (26 weeks) and low birth weight and lung complications.” While talking to Daily Times on the basis of anonymity, a DSH official said that first death happened on Saturday whereas on Sunday three more died adding that the last child lost his life on Monday afternoon. The officials said that Waheeda was admitted on May 7th and the newborn opened their eyes in wee hours on Friday.
The officials said, “We adopted all standard procedure but unfortunately the newborns could not survived. Technically on initial stage ventilators were not required. The heaviest among all was 0.8 kilogramme.” This is the third instance of such case as earlier in December 2015, when a woman gave birth to quintuplets in Karachi. Similarly, in September 2014, there was another case when quintuplets were born in Karachi and another woman gave birth to five children at Civil Hospital Karachi in September 2014.
