Prime Minister takes advantage of his seat

ISLAMABAD: The regional tax office Lahore has sent notices to Sharif family in which explanations have been sought about the income of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and other family members.

The reliable sources told Daily Times that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) want the clarification about the income which were sent to them by their sons and daughters from abroad was either in form of cross cheques or not, as under income tax laws receiving the cross cheques, getting the debt, taking gifts would be considered as the income of the receiver and he would have to declare it in his tax return.

The sources said that although in 2014 the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif received the hefty amount of Rs 190 million as gift from his son Hussain Nawaz but it was not through a cross cheque.

In this regard FBR Islamabad showed its ignorance about the sending notices to Sharif family. However, they said that regional office Lahore can tell about it better.

On the other hand the sources told Daily Times the financial experts, with extremely high proficiency, have corrected the tax record of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, first lady Kalsoom Nawaz, his sons and his daughter.

After the Panama Leaks, the financial experts of federal government had gathered at one point and made the acceptable tax record of Prime Minister and his family. As they succeeded to accurate the record, the confidence of Prime Minister was getting restored.

The sources said that the record mostly pertains to Lahore and Islamabad regional tax offices where important files are giving “All OK” report regarding the tax returns of Sharif family. Likewise the tax professionals also brought the record to the perfect level, which was submitted by the PM in Election Commission.

When Daily Times contacted a high official of FBR , he said that a two member audit team from Lahore sought out the files as well as computerized record deeply but all files are in correct form. He said that it is hard to alter the computerized record, however the receipts can be adjusted in old files but no one can tell that these two experts added which documents in the file, but it is very much true that some secret job was carried out in the record during last one month.

Another officer of FBR said that getting and changing the record for the federal government is not a big issue. Now files are in accurate shape and now Sharif family would be successful if the matter would be taken in any commission.

He said that the code of computerized record is with the top officials of FBR and if any expert can get this code, he can change the computerized record too, but if files would be checked with great care and impartiality the secret of the alteration of record could be unveiled.

The Prime Minister said in his speech in the parliament previous day that he would get investigate the matter of Panama leaks and show his tax record in the house in next few days.
