Traffic jams leave citizens stranded amid intense heat

Author: Imran chaudhry

LAHORE: Amidst the intense heat, citizens on Wednesday witnessed massive traffic jams across the city due to different protests and development activities taking place in the provincial capital. People faced immense problems in reaching their destinations, as they had to use alternate routes, which further increased the traffic flow. Traffic on Ferozpur Road, Canal Road, The Mall, Jail Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Davis Road, Allama Iqbal Road, GT Road, Mecleod Road, Railway Station, Egerton Road, Empress Road, Multan Road and its linking arteries were completely choked for many hours, leaving the citizens in anguish. The road users were seen stuck in massive traffic jams not only on the main roads but also link roads due to the some ‘unplanned’ development projects in different areas of the city. The flow of traffic was also halted due to demonstrations organised by the large number of basic health unit workers in front of Punjab Assembly, The Mall. Although the city was facing the problem for many days, but the police did not succeed in providing ease to the citizens, as most wardens were absent from the main squares, creating more abnormality in the traffic flow. Ambulances carrying emergencies were also seen stuck in the traffic jam while the road users had to face a lot of troubles for hours to move from one place to another.
